Offences and Penalties


  • Any citizen who, with a view to obtaining a National Identity Card, intentionally or knowingly, provides any false or distorted information or conceals any information, shall be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extent to one year, or with a fine which may extent to twenty thousand taka, or, with both.
  • Any citizen who intentionally or knowingly obtains more than one National Identity Card shall be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extent to one year, or with a fine which may extent to twenty thousand taka or with both.
  • If any officer or employee of the Commission or any person acting under or by this Act, in administering the National Identity Card registration activities, in preparing National Identity Card, distorts or destroys willfully any information or data relating to National Identity preserved by the Commission, shall be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years, or with a fine not exceeding one lakh taka, or, with both.
  • Any person who intentionally distorts or destroys any information of the National Identity Cardshall be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or with a fine not exceeding fourty thousand taka, or, with both.
  • If any officer or employee of the Commission or any person acting under or by this Act, in administering the National Identity Card registration activities, in preparing National Identity Card, neglects to discharge his duties without assigning any reason shall be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or with a fine not exceeding twenty thousand taka or, with both.
  • If any person who faked up a National Identity Card or knowingly carries fake Identity Cards shall be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years, or with a fine not exceeding one lakh taka or, with both.
  • If any person who abets in faking a National Identity Card or induces anyone to carry out such identity card shall be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years, or with a fine not exceeding one lakh taka or, with both.
  • If any person who without reasonable cause holds or carries National Identity Card of others citizen shall be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or with a fine not exceeding twenty thousand taka or, with both.
